MBB Wide Lower Bar Set
Related Products and Parts
Our Wide Lower Bar sets are larger versions of the cradles on our standard bicycle and surfboard moped racks. Cradle interior width increases from 3.8" to a full 5.2" to handle thicker boards including some SUPs. May also be useful for carrying two lighter boards or other thicker objects. See the instruction sheet for a detailed comparison of dimensions. THIS IS NOT A COMPLETE RACK. This is just a larger set of lower cradles that can be added to any of our full rack sets as an upgrade.

Using our Racks with Multiple Boards or SUPs
Our longboard racks are well suited for use with multiple boards and SUPs with the following limitations:
- We recommend the racks for total board weight up to about 25 lbs.
- Heavier boards are hard to ride with off the side of the bike, and will exceed the load capacity of the bars.
- SUPs are wide and you will need clearance under your handlebar. For the most part, this means you can only carry a SUP with a beach cruiser with a high rise set of cruiser bars.
- The standard bar sets have just under 4 inches of clearance for your board. Many SUPs are in the 4-5 inch width range. A pair of boards can also be in this range.
- It is relatively easy to bend the lower U shaped portion of the bars open to fit wider boards and combinations of boards. In many cases you can just bend open your standard bars instead of getting these Wider Lower Bars.
This video shows some specifics around using our Longboard Racks with SUPs, which these bars may be useful for with performance SUPs in the 4-5 inch thick range.
The video below was produced by a Moved By Bikes customer and shared with us. We thought it was so good we wanted to share it here. Please note that we always recommend using some kind of straps or cords to retain larger boards in the racks, but in this video an alternate approach is shown of wedging the board in place with a paddle. Straps are most effective when pulled from the rack eyelet up and over the top of the board and then all the way over to the bike frame. This will pull the top of the board toward the bike and greatly improve stability of the board in the racks.
